One of the most experienced defense trial attorneys in our region and beyond, Jack is a founding partner of Delany Law.  Prior to starting DL, he ran DelanyMcBride for five years; co-founded Delany & O’Brien, which operated for 24 years; ran the Philadelphia office of a large New Jersey/New York firm; and  worked as assistant counsel for the Philadelphia Housing Authority.

Jack’s practice is devoted primarily to catastrophic and high-profile/high-exposure claims, including construction, asbestos, toxic torts, automobile and transportation, fire casualty, and products liability. He has tried more than 60 jury trials to conclusion, as well as hundreds of bench trials, arbitrations, and mediations.  Jack has represented many Fortune 500 companies directly and as insureds, and has handled complex litigation matters at the federal and state levels as well as in administrative agencies and alternate dispute resolution forums. He is national coordinating counsel for several product manufacturers, and routinely litigates against the country’s most prominent national plaintiff’s firms and attorneys.

In recognition of his professionalism, skill, and track record, Jack has been named a Certified Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and is certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney. He is honored to be a member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC), where he serves as Technology Committee Co-Chair and Toxic Torts Co-Chair. He also enjoys serving pro bono as an adjunct professor in the Temple Law School Trial Advocacy Program, LLM and as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. He is also a frequent lecturer for DRI, FDCC, IADC, ECMA, PERRIN, and other national industry and legal associations. Jack has consistently been named a Super Lawyer in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

A native of Philly, Jack lives with his wife, Julie, in southern New Jersey, where he spent years as a community sports coach for his three sons and his daughter. He enjoys running, hiking, back country exploration, kayaking, and spending time in coastal Maine.

With decades of legal experience, Kristen has represented clients and tried jury cases to conclusion throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey in the areas of products liability, retail/franchise liability, and commercial transportation, specifically representing companies that specialize in pupil transportation as well as para-transit and non-emergency medical transport.

At the special request of clients, Kristen has tried cases to verdict in New York and also tried plaintiff personal injury cases in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  In 2017, Kristen secured the third highest negligent entrustment verdict in the State of New Jersey as well as one of the top 100 verdicts in the State for 2017.

In connection with her commercial automobile practice , Kristen handles coverage determinations in first and third party personal injury suits with a focus on New Jersey PIP suits, and frequently lectures on topics nuancing the procedural and substantive differences of Pennsylvania and New Jersey law as it relates to her commercial transportation clients.

Andrew joined Delany O’Brien thirteen years ago and has been a partner at Delany McBride and Delany Law since 2005. He has vast experience in civil litigation and insurance defense work, and his areas of expertise include construction, fire, and product litigation. Andrew also has an extensive understanding of general practice, including wills and estates, real estate law, and corporate and family law. His broad legal experience allows him to handle an almost unlimited range of cases expertly and efficiently.

He has worked as an associate at two other Pennsylvania law firms, and at the Bucks County Legal Aid Society, but he is proudest of his association with Delany McBride. “Working with one of the top trial lawyers in the country has sharpened my skills immensely,” he says.

A seasoned defense attorney, Doug spent ten years at two New Jersey firms, rising to the level of partner for professional and general liability defense at Cipriani & Werner, P.C. At Stahl and De Laurentis, where he specialized in medical malpractice defense, he handled the first civil case brought by a participant in the witness protection program. His first-chair trial experience and skills in firm development, management and marketing are well-suited to the fast-paced environment of Delany Law.

Doug has served as president of the New Jersey Society for Health Care Risk Managers and has presented lectures on legal topics in healthcare to doctors and nursing students. As a student at Rutgers Law, he completed three clerkships, one in the Superior Court of New Jersey and two for Philadelphia law firms. He holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental planning and design and has previously worked as a landscape architect. Doug is an active environmental advocate and volunteer in Burlington County, NJ and his community of Moorestown, where he lives with his wife and children.

A graduate of Rutgers Law School in Camden, Laura comes to Delany Law with experience at four other defense firms in our region. She has successfully managed many complex cases, with expertise in medical malpractice defense of physicians, nurses, hospitals and medical practice groups, from claim through all phases of discovery to trial, making her well suited to join Delany Law’s dynamic litigation team. She has extensive experience in litigation involving longterm care and rehabilitation facilities, and has also defended general liability, product liability, auto, employment and workers’ compensation matters.

She has been recognized by her peers on the New Jersey Super Lawyer Rising Star list for medical malpractice defense in both 2012 and 2013.

Laura was an undergraduate English major and worked as a legal affairs reporter and in public relations before becoming an attorney. Her love of language and excellent communication skills are an asset to Delany Law’s practice.

She has volunteered as a legal advocate for the homeless and in her spare time enjoys Latin dance and spending time with her family.

Prior to joining Delany McBride in 2016, Rob worked for a worker’s compensation firm litigating cases across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which has proven useful in his handling of complex personal injury claims stemming from workplace injuries. He enjoys the challenge of understanding the complex legal issues and factual circumstances in every case, and is always eager to explore and learn about new legal issues.

Born and raised in Ambler, PA Rob attended high school, college, and law school in the Philadelphia area. During law school, he clerked for a personal injury litigation firm and worked with Villanova’s Intensive Trial Advocacy Program. He also participated in an externship at the Philadelphia Public Defender’s Office, where he represented indigent defendants in bench trials, gaining valuable courtroom experience and a passion for trial work.

At Delany Law, he enjoys getting to know clients personally and providing them with excellent service. “Our clients know we are available to speak to them at any time,” he says.

Rob volunteers for Philadelphia VIP, providing pro bono legal assistance, and is also actively involved with St. Joseph’s University Law Alumni Association.  He lives in Fairmount and enjoys snowboarding and spending time at the beach in Ocean City, NJ.

Stephen is an associate at the firm’s Philadelphia office where he focuses on a wide variety of litigation disputes including motor vehicle and construction accidents, premises liability, and subrogation matters across New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Stephen was a member of a select class of students admitted to Drexel University’s BS/JD accelerated degree program, allowing him to matriculate into Drexel University’s School of Law in three years. During law school, Stephen gained invaluable hands-on experience as a certified legal intern in the City of Philadelphia Law Department. He was a member of the inaugural class of law student clinicians at Philadelphia Legal Assistance, where he represented the rights of a culturally diverse and primarily low-income client base in areas of family law, including custody, support and protection from abuse. Stephen competed on Drexel’s national ranked trial team during his second and third year of law school, helping earn his team finalist positions in regional and national competitions. He was also a fellow of the Marshall Brennan Constitutional Literacy Program teaching Constitutional law to juniors and seniors at South Philadelphia High School.

Since graduating from law school, Stephen has taken a leadership role among his peers as vice chair of the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyer’s Division on litigation. Before joining Delany Law, Suchi worked on a vast range of criminal cases for the Honorable Lucretia Clemons in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. She started with bench trials that dealt with drug cases, and eventually became involved with violent criminal jury cases, including attempted murder, deadly weapons, rape, and assault.

This intensive, hands-on experience gave her the opportunity to observe the law from many angles. “Seeing things from a different perspective allows for better advocacy,” she says.

Suchi brings strong communication skills to the Delany Law team. She has a particular interest in appellate law, and in law school was awarded the Certificate of Achievement in Appellate Practice and Procedure from Delaware Supreme Court Justice Randy J. Holland. “In appellate law, although the ‘final’ judgement has been entered, there is still a possibility of resolving a case with a different outcome,” she says.

In addition to an array of legal experience as an associate and a law clerk, Tom’s background includes two years in financial planning. “I think that experience gives me an
increased awareness of the financial and business aspects of litigation and helps me counsel clients on both the practical and legal aspects of a case,” he says.

As an associate at a Delaware law firm specializing in estate planning, real estate, and small-business issues, he assisted in litigation matters including estate litigation, corporate disputes, real estate litigation, and personal injury. Both as an associate attorney and during law school, when he clerked for a prominent Delaware personal injury firm, Tom learned to navigate Delaware’s Superior Court, Court of Common Pleas, and Court of Chancery.

At Delany Law, Tom focuses on litigation full-time, and handles a wide variety of cases, including construction litigation, products liability, and premises liability, as well as all of the firm’s toxic torts cases. “I enjoy working on a team where everybody is always available and willing to help one another out,” he says.

Tom is a resident of Philadelphia, who describes himself as optimistic, confident, and empathetic, serves as a court-appointed attorney ad litem in guardianship proceedings in Delaware’s Court of Chancery. Alison joined the DL team in 2016, bringing a depth of experience in insurance defense work from other law firms. She specializes in defending motor vehicle accidents and premises liability claims at DL, where she is known for her work ethic and her attention to detail.

As a clerk for Pennsylvania Judge Margherita Patti Worthington after law school, Alison was introduced to high-level civil and criminal cases and the talented attorneys who handled them. “Seeing the dedication and hard work of the litigators who appeared before her, as well as the dignity and professionalism that Judge Worthington brought to the bench, was an invaluable experience,” she says.

Rosalind (Roz) has more than 22 years of experience in family, corporate, and personal injury defense litigation as well as plaintiff law. She provides valuable assistance to the DL team in preparing for depositions, client meetings, trials, and hearings. Roz maintains close contact with clients, judges, and opposing counsel and their staff to ensure the best possible client service for every case she is assigned.

Before joining Delany & O’Brien in 2003, Roz built strong communication and people skills in the offices of Philadelphia Councilwoman Joan Spector and State Senator Roxanne Jones. She is a multitasker and strong relationship builder who is dedicated to keeping ahead of the latest technology. Roz has been instrumental in creating, maintaining and expanding DM’s extensive filing system.

In 2018, Roz helped found Women Building Dreams, Delany Law’s community outreach effort, which provides practical assistance to single mothers and their children in Philadelphia. “Growing up in a struggling family, I know that a helping hand goes a long way, and Delany McBride is providing that,” she says.

In her free time, Roz likes to sing, shop, spend time with her grandchildren and travel the world.

Valerie Nicotra

Valerie has worked as a claims assistant in the special investigations unit for a large insurance company and as a legal assistant and paralegal for law firms in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. As a result, she has developed extensive experience in tax and fiduciary matters, labor and development issues, medical malpractice, personal injury, and commercial litigation. Her expertise in the many areas, her meticulous attention to detail,  and her strong communication and interpersonal skills make her a valuable resource in the office as well as the courtroom.

Currently, Valerie serves as DL’s asbestos coordinator, reviewing and organizing case materials, drafting relevant communications, and assisting counsel at trials, depositions, and hearings for asbestos-related cases.

Maria C. Reardon

Maria has nearly thirty years of experience working for Philadelphia law firms, and has been an integral part of the firm since it began as Delany & O’Brien in 1994. Her understanding of and firsthand experience with complex legal matters and her technical expertise with office and legal software make her an invaluable member of the trial team. As such, she has attended numerous trials. “It’s always rewarding to contribute to a positive outcome,” she says.

Maria has handled a wide variety of claims ranging from many types of defense work to plaintiff wrongful death cases. Her background includes toxic torts, personal injury, construction defect, and premise liability. She works closely with attorneys to coordinate pre-trial proceedings and discovery, obtain witnesses, perform research, and  draft motions, pleadings, subpoenas,  correspondence, and interrogatories.

As a leader in her field, she has presented to paralegals and legal assistants through the National Business Institute, the Institute for Paralegal Studies, and Community College of Philadelphia. She has been an active volunteer in her community and for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia.

Maria attributes her strong multitasking skills to her longtime status as a working mom to sons Nicholas, Michael, and John. She enjoys reading, running, and spending time with her husband Pete.

With 26 years of experience in both insurance defense and as a plaintiff paralegal, Cathy brings a balanced legal perspective to Delany Law. A lifelong and enthusiastic learner, she prides herself in keeping up with the Rules of Court in every area of the law. “I try to stay educated on the continuous changes that come with a law practice,” she says.

At Delany Law, Cathy assists on general liability and other cases. Seeing her contributions as a paralegal lead to successful verdicts for clients is the part of her job she finds most rewarding.

“My biggest strength is my ability to work under pressure and multitask. I am a team player who can fill in wherever there is a need within the firm,” she says.

Cathy attended Paul VI High School and has six children and a grandchild. She is passionate about reading, cooking, and Sunday family dinners.

About

Hannah comes to Delany Law with years of experience in personal injury – she began her legal career at a solo practice personal injury plaintiff’s firm practicing in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware as a part-time Korean interpreter, sitting in on preparation meetings for depositions, arbitrations, and trials as interpreter for Korean-American clients, and was quickly promoted to a full-time paralegal position. After a few years, she parted ways and moved onto a larger personal injury plaintiff’s firm in Philadelphia where she supervised the pre-litigation department.

“It provided me with invaluable experience in the field, allowing me to fully grasp the entire process from intake leading up to litigation,” she says. “It’s exciting to be doing defense litigation work now. I love being able to evaluate a case from both plaintiff and defense points of view.”

Her strengths as a paralegal include her ability to prioritize, as well as critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills. She calls Delany Law “a great work environment where I feel valued and appreciated as a member of the team, not just another cog in the wheel.”

Hannah is an avid reader and is fluent in basic French as well as in English and Korean. A classically trained pianist, her interests include travel, film, hiking, antique collecting, attending concerts, and visiting museums.

A ten-year employee of the firm, Melissa brings reliability, speed, and accuracy to her fast-paced job as a legal secretary. She has experience in bankruptcy/creditors’ rights, wills and estates, corporate law, medical malpractice, personal injury, and construction litigation.

“I have definitely found my niche with construction and personal injury litigation. It’s challenging and interesting,” she says.

Melissa’s strong work ethic and sensitivity to deadlines make her an asset to DL’s busy office. As a longtime yoga teacher, she also understands the importance of maintaining focus and relaxation when working in a dynamic, intense legal environment. “My yoga training has taught me to be the calm in the eye of the storm,“ she says.

Melissa has a teenage son and is interested in health and wellness, fitness, cooking, craft beer, and live music.

Elizabeth Mitten

Liz brings balance and perspective to Delany Law, having worked at both defense and plaintiff’s firms in the past. “It’s given me a well-rounded sense of both sides, all while learning new things,” she says.

Liz, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in political science with a concentration in pre-law, is well-organized, reliable, and thorough. She is a team player and is always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it.

“My mom previously worked for Jack Delany and always raved about how much she loved the firm,” she says. “I am excited to be following in her footsteps and working with such great people.”

A criminal justice major in college, Cheryl has always had an avid interest in the legal field. She worked in banking and at the law offices of Delany & O’Brien as assistant office manager for seven years before taking a job in high school business administration. In 2014, she returned to manage the newly formed Delany McBride, running four fast-paced offices in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York.

“My first job in banking taught me that customer service is top priority in any business,” she says. “At our local high school, I learned to make tough choices in budgeting while allowing students to thrive. Working at DL has allowed me to bring together these skills,  building relationships with valued clients while being fiscally responsible with their dollars and helping the business grow.”

A skilled multi-tasker, Cheryl spends her days problem solving, balancing budgets, and helping the firm run smoothly and efficiently. She is proud of the role she has played in DM’s success, and of the firm’s family-centered philosophy. “DL places value on every employee,” she says.

Cheryl lives in Salem County, New Jersey with her husband Rob and two daughters. She has been a Girl Scout leader, a library volunteer, and a member of the VFW.
